After several years of work, I look back at the future I imagined as a child and realize I have not handed in the flawless answer I once expected of myself. Many hopes remained only hopes.
Perhaps because I am inclined to understand others, and because of certain traits of my own, life has not always unfolded as I wished. In my dealings with people, rational analysis often took up too much room, leaving the most immediate and honest feelings unnoticed.
I am an ordinary person who has never occupied much space in the world. I have nevertheless traveled a fair distance and looked back from time to time. Yet after each brief pause, I choose to meet the future with greater hope, open to everything that may still be possible.
The road ahead may be full of challenges, but I do not feel anxious. Often, the trouble is not that no road remains, but that some stop walking long before the road has ended.
This happens to be the tenth post I have written. Though nine is the largest single digit, I hope to carry my fullest vitality into an entirely new beginning. It is an ending, and also a place from which to begin again.
