人善于比较,于是有了高低;
人执着于占有,于是有了得失;
In the haze between waking and dreaming, I sometimes do not know where this life of mine is meant to go.
If the blazing sun could speak, it might reproach me for wasting such radiant days. Yet looking back, I have always grown this way—stumbling forward, one uneven step at a time. Much of the world's bustle seemed to have nothing to do with me; many disappointments, too, passed as though they belonged elsewhere. Crowds had their clamor, the years their rise and fall, while I simply kept to my own road and walked slowly on.
Only later did I understand that very little was truly required of me.
I needed only to let the thoughts that occasionally stirred within me settle, and allow those voices eager to question and judge to grow quiet. Then many things would reveal themselves as they were. Secrets and futures alike did not always need to be pursued with such effort.
I did not have to know every detail.
Once the heart became still, the details would rise of their own accord from the depths of time, little by little.
Perhaps I have not lived through very much, yet it feels as though I have crossed whole mountain ranges of emotion. Joy, loss, attachment, release—each has left its trace upon my heart. Having come this far, I find myself less and less willing to speak in grand narratives.
For I have learned that what truly illuminates a life is rarely a light that shakes the heavens.
The faintest glimmer can gather into a sea of stars. Countless small and tender moments can brighten even the longest night.
When that cool, secluded radiance descended and covered the open fields, I did not feel lonely. I felt gently held by something. It made no sound and promised nothing, yet carried a long-forgotten tenderness that finally allowed me to lay many things down.
Slowly, old misunderstandings found their answers. Disappointments I had once held close were quietly smoothed away by time.
Only then did I know—
wherever I go, whatever I endure, I will, in the end, love myself deeply.
Just as this world, in its own way, has always loved every person who arrives here.
Some may wonder why fate is so unjust—why one person receives so much while another bears so much. Yet I have gradually come to feel that certain injustices are made by people, not by the world itself.
We compare, and so create higher and lower.
We cling to possession, and so create gain and loss.
We draw boundaries, and so create you and me.
But the world does none of this.
There is wind on the mountain heights and water in the valley below. What flourishes beyond measure will one day fade; what is frail will find some spring in which to grow again.
Heaven and earth seem in no hurry to judge anyone. They simply turn without ceasing, taking from what overflows and giving to what is wanting, until all things slowly return to their rightful place in the vastness of time.
So do not deny yourself for one season of disappointment, nor doubt the whole world because a stretch of road is rough.
People may create inequality,
but heaven and earth keep their silent balance.
All we need do is grow quietly within our own lives, becoming, little by little, the person we were always capable of being.
The faintest lights will gather into a sea of stars.
And even the longest night has a tenderness of its own.
May all be well.
