见天地辽阔,也知自身微小;
In a blur, it sometimes feels as though life has already carried us a very long way.
And yet, when we turn to look back, it seems to have passed in no more than a moment.
Time is a strange thing. While we are living inside it, the days ahead appear endless. But once they have gone, whole years become light as wind, slipping quietly through our fingers.
And so I sometimes wonder: are cherishing and wasting truly opposites?
Perhaps we cannot always tell. The time we think we have squandered today may, many years from now, reveal itself as an indispensable part of the road. And what we once held tightly in our hands may, in the end, still be carried away by the wind.
Perhaps this is simply the way of life.
The farther we travel and the more we see, the less willing we become to speak with certainty.
I once believed that the more I knew, the closer I would come to an answer. Later, I began to understand that knowledge is like an ever-widening circle: the larger it grows, the longer its boundary touches the unknown.
And so, after reading a few books, walking a few roads, and seeing a little of the world, one does not necessarily become more certain.
Instead, one becomes increasingly aware of one’s own limits.
Perhaps this is what humility is.
Not the deliberate lowering of oneself, but the quiet realization that heaven and earth are vast, that the affairs of the world run deep, and that what we see is only a small corner of something immeasurably larger.
The mountain remains the mountain.
The water remains the water.
What truly changes is often only the way our eyes behold them.
And slowly, the heart begins to leave some room empty.
There is less urgency to explain everything, and less insistence that every question must have an answer.
What is known, is known.
What is not known may simply remain unknown, quietly.
Things we once could not contain gradually find a place within us. The old need to divide everything into right and wrong, gain and loss, begins to loosen.
Not because we understand more, but precisely because we have become more aware of all that we do not know.
And so we learn to let the unknown remain.
The heart changes slowly.
Like water passing through the palm.
Like a stream moving over stone, year after year.
One moment of clarity does not mean we will remain clear forever. One act of letting go does not mean attachment will never return.
Yet one day, when we look back, we may suddenly find that the edges once so sharp have somehow grown gentle.
The water never argued with the stone.
It simply flowed past.
Perhaps this is what it means for the heart to open.
Not to see through everything.
Not to become untouched by sorrow or joy.
But to slowly discover within ourselves a place that has become a little more like water.
Whatever comes, it reflects.
Whatever leaves, it does not force to stay.
Not because the world has finally learned to fit our understanding, but because we no longer demand that it must.
And perhaps it is here that life turns to another page.
A little less certainty.
A little less resistance.
A little more seeing.
A little more room to hold what we see.
The road is still long.
The unknown is still without end.
Only the traveler has changed.
We are no longer quite so eager to arrive.
May the years ahead allow us
to see how vast the world is,
and still remember how small we are;
to witness the complexity of life,
and still keep a measure of clarity within.
We need not be clear at every moment.
May it simply be that,
whenever we lose our way,
we can still find our way back.
Be well.
