A fierce wind swept through, and a cold front followed. As night drove the temperature below freezing, the shadow of deep winter quietly settled upon the windowsill.
Standing at the open window, I watched the tireless wind push the last warmth of summer from the earth, while the warmth of my own hands slipped away between my fingers. Daylight faded, yet darkness was already brewing color. When the night began to overflow with its hidden hues, the day's chapter finally curved into a complete circle. Winter's gathering-in belongs to the rhythm of nature: it silently escorts vitality away, while leaving blank space for the next season of growth. When the familiar movement returns, everything arrives in its proper measure.
Some people demand success so sternly that they become harsh toward themselves and others. Yet reality rarely bends to personal will. Perhaps failure is simply the ordinary road toward achievement. Or perhaps the great shining moment comes only seldom, and the nearest we have ever drawn to it is already worthy of being called success.
Some search so desperately for happiness that they overlook the warmth already present; sorrow reaches them first. If a life must be measured by happiness, then happiness obtained through comparison is only an illusion. Those who meet life with hope and openness often find happiness arriving unannounced—and when it comes, the people they meet are, somehow, exactly the right ones.
In this world, abundance often finds those who do not live in want, and tenderness favors hearts that still carry warmth.
