行过一片湖,才知湖水辽阔;
Only after walking beside a lake do we begin to understand its breadth;
only after truly knowing another soul do we begin to glimpse the depth of the human heart.
Day after day, we turn quietly inward, gathering the scattered pieces of our thoughts, tracing the faint outlines of what we have gained, what we have lost, and what has left us bewildered.
Perhaps we do all this for one unbidden moment of clarity—
a moment when the fragments fall into place, and what once seemed tangled suddenly reveals its shape.
Then, the part no longer hides the whole,
and even our unanswered questions seem to find somewhere to rest.
But with time, I came to see that awakening is never an arrival.
It is only a door opening at dawn.
Beyond it, the mountains remain.
The rivers go on.
The road stretches farther than the eye can see, and there are still landscapes untouched by memory.
What we understand today is merely the ground from which tomorrow begins again.
If we refuse to remain where we are, then the book of life will keep turning, page after page, with no final chapter in sight.
And yet the world is vast, the way is long, the mountains steep, the waters far.
How could anyone live forever in the act of overcoming?
If every step forward must leave us emptied, if every season of growth must be wrestled from resistance, then perhaps our seeking itself will one day forget why it began.
So I have started to wonder whether what we are truly searching for is not a path that leads to some final state of awakening.
Perhaps it is something gentler.
A hidden spring that never runs dry.
Something that allows us, even as the years gather around us, to remain curious; to remain tender toward the world; to keep discovering small astonishments in ordinary things.
Not a force that urges us endlessly toward some distant horizon, consuming us in the name of becoming, but a quiet source of renewal—something that lets us begin again each time an old self falls away.
New life often arrives like this.
Not with thunder.
Not with grandeur.
At first it is small, almost weightless, soft enough to seem defenseless before the wind.
But life has never needed hardness in order to be strong.
A green shoot can part the soil.
A drop of water can cross mountains.
Sometimes I lift my eyes to the open sky and watch the world rushing into bloom.
I see others moving swiftly, each toward some destination of their own, and then I look back at myself and feel, for a moment, as though I have fallen behind.
But I no longer hurry because of it.
There is beauty meant for those who travel quickly, and another kind reserved for those who move slowly.
Some roads are not meant to be chased.
Some answers do not deepen simply because they are found sooner.
Perhaps peace begins in an ordinary moment—
when I look up and notice a cloud passing overhead,
a still stretch of water,
or something far away growing silently beneath the light,
and suddenly, the voice within me that has always said go farther, become more, arrive sooner grows quiet.
That single glance may change nothing in the world.
And yet, somehow, time itself seems to soften around it.
From then on, I no longer feel that I must be forever arriving somewhere else.
Perhaps eternity is not endless time.
Perhaps eternity is simply this:
a moment the heart no longer wishes to leave.
And perhaps that is where peace begins.
May all be well.
